Ravi Describes the Citizen's State Bank of Ouray

Page history last edited by Jenny Hart 1 yr ago

The Citizens State Bank is important.  First, the bank was in the Beaumont.  It started in 1913.  The old vault is still there.  It was the fourth bank in Ouray.  Second, in 1918 it moved into the building it is in now where the Office Saloon was first.  It had a women’s entrance for women because it was improper for women to go into a saloon.  There was a restaurant in the back and that is why they had a women’s entrance.  The women’s entrance is still there.  Today it is used for a walkway to get to the ATM.  Finally, if you walk into any bank it will probably not look the same as this one, because they restored it so well!  There is an old clock.  It is about one hundred years old.  There are two other places in Ouray that have the same clock.  They are the St. Elmo and the Beaumont.  There is a tin Victorian ceiling that is still there.  The old teller windows were restored too.  They are like metal bars.  The Citizens State Bank is so important to Ouray history!!!

Are you sure the bank was in the Beaumont?
Didn't you mean to say it was the 4th bank at that time in your 5th sentance?
What is a ATM?
What type of clock is it?
Why does the "teller" have metal bars on it?
I learned that this bank is very unique in Ouray.
