Tom Walsh was born in Ireland in 1850. In 1871 he moved to Colorado. By 1894 he lived in Silverton and ran a smelter. As of 1896, Tom Walsh discovered gold in Imogene Basin and he started the Camp Bird Mine. Tom’s boarding house was as good a hotel. Tom Walsh treated his miners with great respect. The miners ate off of China dishes. All their boarding houses had electricity and were steam heated. In 1896 Tom Walsh struck it rich at the Camp Bird Mine. In 1901 he donated the City Hall Library for the benefit of Ouray County. Tom Walsh made 5,000 dollars per day. He also paid off the bills for the St. Johns Hospital. It was a total of $3,500. The Camp Bird Mine sold to a London Company for a total of 6,000,000. In 1910 Tom Walsh died. Tom Walsh was an important man in Ouray at that time.

You did a great job, Jordan. I never knew that Tom Walsh's boarding house's were like hotels! The one thing about it is that you didn't talk about his daughter and how she owned the hope diamond that now is in Washington D.C. and how she owned it.

I like how you included life periods and when particular things happened, like him discovering gold and silver in the mine.
